The tagline or mission statement of Gentle River Healing is 'Your Journey to Reconnect'. You may wonder. Reconnect? To who? To what? Curiosity is a great first step. Is there somewhere that your brain jumps to? That is probably where the reconnecting needs to happen for you.
Reconnecting is a process that is unique to your current life experiences. When I think of reconnecting, I like to break it down into three sections. Reconnecting to yourself, reconnecting to others, and reconnecting to the world around you (or something more). When we are able to connect- truly connect- we can feel safe and secure. This is something that we all desperately want. If we have it we want to keep it. If we don't have it, we crave it.
When speaking of reconnecting to our self, there are many different facets. First, I think about the process of figuring out what the heck is happening in our brain and our body. Often, I find individuals are running on autopilot. We may act or think things that don't make sense at first glance. Together we can explore what is happening and gain understanding of why it is happening. The process of awareness and acceptance is huge. Within this process there is the past, present and future to think about. How are we managing our life and in what ways may we want to manage it better. Learn how to cope with what comes our way. Practice having compassion for ourselves and forgiveness.
Relationships are messy and often complicated. This is not necessarily a bad thing. When we think about reconnecting with others, there are so many dynamics to consider. One thing I like to hold space for is how this other person makes you feel. Do they make you the best version of yourself? Are you able to show up authentically? There are all kinds of relationships, and I can help you identify how you would like to navigate them. Thinking about people you want to bring closer and those you need distance from. How to identify, express and maintain personal boundaries.
Thinking about connecting to the world around you (or something more) is the vaguest of these three goals. This is because each person is unique. How you connect is something only you know or will discover in time. For some this is spirituality or religion. For others this may be a type of creativity- music, art, dancing, singing, cooking, etc. For some it may be getting out in nature for a hike, swim, or gardening. When you find this sense of connection, there is often a sense of peace.
So, I hope through reading this you've taken a moment to notice what areas of connection feel really good in your life. I also hope you've noticed what areas may need a little more attention. Both are good. The goal is not to have everything perfect, but to build acceptance and awareness for today and understanding how we want to work to make tomorrow different.
